Frequently Asked Questions
What is B Corp certification?
B Corp is an internationally renowned label developed by the independent NGO B LAB. It recognizes companies that are able to demonstrate positive and significant achievements on social, environmental and/or local community level related to their core business.
Its ambition can be summed up in one sentence: “business for good“. Companies are invited to reflect on their business model and to move towards a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative model. The label also aims to encourage businesses to combine economic performance with social, societal and/or environmental performance. Accordingly reducing inequalities, promoting a healthy environmental framework and improving the quality of employment.
Why choose B Corp?
B Corp label is the most comprehensive and internationally recognized certification issued by the B Lab. It is based on the company’s verified practices. Unlike other labels that limit their recognition to certain products, services, manufacturing processes or ingredients, the B Corp label encompasses the entire business structure.
What is needed to become a B Corp?
To become a certified company, you must evaluate your company according to the 5 pillars of the label using the “Business Impact Assessment” (BIA). This document includes 200 questions and analyzes the operational impact and the incidence of its business model.
The answers to this questionnaire allow you to accumulate two types of points:
- operational points ranging from 0.5 points, 0.75 points, etc., earned according to the measures taken, their intensity of application and the ability to demonstrate results;
- impact points linked to the integration of CSR topics in the business model. These points are more difficult to obtain, they are also essential points to earn to reach the certification score (currently of 80 Points) under which it is impossible to continue the process.
On average, companies take between 9 and 18 months to obtain a B Corp label. However, the duration depends on the number of applications in progress, the company’s degree of maturity in terms of CSR, the accuracy of the documents, etc.
What is CSR?
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is increasingly recognized as a crucial aspect of modern business practices. It refers to a company’s obligation to act in an ethically responsible manner towards itself, its stakeholders, and the broader public. This accountability extends beyond the mere provision of products and services or the creation of jobs and economic opportunities. CSR encompasses a wide range of factors, including working conditions, respect for human rights, health and safety standards, environmental sustainability, innovation, and access to education and training.
A company that genuinely embraces CSR actively seeks to make a positive impact on society while maintaining its economic viability.
This commitment not only enhances the company’s reputation but also fosters trust and loyalty among consumers, employees, and investors. By integrating social and environmental considerations into their business strategies, companies can contribute to the well-being of communities and promote sustainable development.
Why define a CSR strategy?
The integration of a CSR strategy allows a company to better:
- Anticipate the transformation of its business model towards a more sustainable model.
- Maximize its chances of winning tenders
- Respond to customer requests
- Engage employees
As consumers become more informed and socially conscious, the demand for businesses to operate with integrity and purpose continues to grow. Understanding and implementing CSR principles is essential for companies aiming to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.
What is the FSSD methodology?
The Framework for Strategic Development (FSSD), also known as The Natural Step, is an innovative methodology that originated in Sweden in 1989. Over the last three decades, it has demonstrated its effectiveness across both public and private organizations worldwide. The FSSD offers a systemic, strategic, and collaborative approach that facilitates the integration of sustainable development principles into the core operations of a business, spanning from vision to actionable steps.
At the heart of this framework lies the evaluation of a company’s actions and decisions against eight fundamental sustainability conditions. This transformative paradigm empowers organizations to navigate the complexities of social and environmental challenges, enabling them to anticipate and address the future implications of their decisions more effectively.
By adopting the FSSD, organizations can not only enhance their sustainability practices but also foster a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of global issues.
